Do spare time for a brief chat when contacting Top Hat n Tails, especially for the first time.\u00a0 It\u2019s important to establish a clear picture of requirements for the dog\u2019s welfare, and for its styling.<\/p>\n

\"pawz1small\"<\/a>\u00a0 Discussing your Dog’s Needs<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If your dog has arthritis, for example, it will need to move gently and at frequent intervals during a grooming session.\u00a0\u00a0 And, like any trip to the hairdresser, it\u2019s important to discuss the desired effect – how short is<\/em> \u201cshort\u201d?\u00a0 A picture can often help.<\/p>\n

\"pawz1small\"<\/a>\u00a0 Health Check<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Top Hat n Tails grooming sessions begin with a general health check<\/u> and any issues noted will be drawn to your attention.\u00a0\u00a0 Please mention whether your dog is:<\/p>\n

– taking prescribed medicines,<\/p>\n

– diagnosed with a condition eg diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, or<\/p>\n

– prone to fitting, breathing difficulties or stress reactions.<\/p>\n

If so then arrangements may include frequent breaks for drinking water and the toilet, or to give their own food at a particular time.\u00a0 If your dog or bitch has sensitivities, behavioural ‘flash points’ (eg hates water) or may be coming into season, mention this too.<\/p>\n

And if your dog does have mobility problems, is post-operative or overweight then lifting may not be appropriate; please discuss the alternatives.<\/p>\n

\"pawz1small\"<\/a>\u00a0 Natural Benefits<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Brushing out, hand-stripping, bathing, clipping and styling will follow as required.\u00a0 A range of natural, sensitive and colour-specific shampoos are available, together with gentle conditioning rinses.<\/p>\n

Please note \u2013 a wet dog will likely need to be bathed and dried, before further grooming can be carried out.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\"pawz1small\"<\/a>\u00a0 Dealing with Matts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Doggy dogs collect mud, grit and vegetation while out and about.\u00a0 Tiny bits of debris are easy to miss, even in daily home grooming.\u00a0 Debris which becomes embedded can cause painful matts<\/strong> to develop.<\/p>\n

There is a short Top Hat n Tails Customer Record Card to complete, giving details such as your contact numbers and any known medical conditions.\u00a0 This notes that Top Hat n Tails will remove matts wherever possible.\u00a0 Any matts will be addressed before bathing.<\/p>\n

\"pawz1small\"<\/a>\u00a0 Further Issues<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

External ear<\/strong> surfaces, the meatus, will be cleaned – outside of the ear cavity – unless you request no treatment in this area.<\/p>\n

Nails <\/strong>can be clipped as part of a grooming session.\u00a0 They will be addressed after bathing, where required.<\/p>\n

Customers are referred to their vet for teeth <\/strong>scaling and anal gland<\/strong> expression.\u00a0 This is Top Hat n Tails\u2019 response to advice published after a review by the British Dog Groomers\u2019 Association, which consulted organisations including the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.<\/p>\n
